C.R.A.F.T.
{Rehabilitation with Covid and Functional Training}

C.R.A.F.T. is a novel therapeutic approach designed for individuals whose bodies have been adversely impacted by COVID-19, leading to notable limitations in their day-to-day activities.

FCPT has developed C.R.A.F.T., which elevates physical therapy to a new level during this dire pandemic. C.R.A.F.T. solely focuses on patients who have suffered from COVID and have been left deconditioned, thus affecting their daily functional activities.  Patients are constantly monitored for their oxygen levels and        heart rate to ensure safety throughout their treatments.

We understand the effects COVID has on the entire body and      formulate a customized treatment protocol individually for each person based on their deficits and lifestyle.

PAIN Relief PHYSICAL THERAPYCold Laser Therapy Services

At Family Care Physical Therapy, we operate the top-rated outpatient cold laser therapy unit in Western New York.
Cold laser therapy is used in the treatment of acute and chronic pain conditions through a safe, effective, and painless procedure with no side effects. It works by using safe, low-power lasers to stimulate natural biological healing in a tissue that is either unable to recover on its own or is slow in healing. Our team is proud to offer the region’s best cold laser therapy services, with offices located in Buffalo, NY, and Williamsville, NY.

What is Cold Laser Therapy?

Cold laser therapy, also known as low-level laser therapy (LLLT), is a cutting-edge pain treatment that uses low-power lasers to stimulate cells in soft tissues. Most people think of lasers as high-power tools for cutting, burning, or destroying, but the low-power lasers used in cold laser therapy are different. Instead, low-level lasers (Class 3A) used in cold laser therapy are completely painless, and these low-power lasers do not cut, burn, or destroy tissues.

How Does Cold Laser Therapy Work?

With cold laser therapy, our expert technicians use a safe, hand-held device that’s roughly the size of a flashlight. The device contains low-level lasers that are held on an affected area for a brief period of time—generally between 30 seconds and several minutes—to impart light energy into soft tissues in the body. The targeted tissues absorb the light on a cellular level and convert it into chemical energy. This helps decrease swelling and pain and increases tissue regeneration. Efficacy rates with cold laser therapy are routinely 90% or higher, making it a highly effective treatment for many types of chronic and acute pain.

WHAT AILMENTS CAN COLD LASER THERAPY HELP?

Cold laser therapy is helpful in the treatment of many types of injuries or conditions causing short-term or chronic pain. Some conditions with which we have had the greatest success include lower back and neck pain, migraines, rotator cuff tears, carpal tunnel syndrome, achilles tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, knee pain, tennis and golfer’s elbow, and sinus infections (sinusitis). The dual-wavelength cold lasers safely penetrate up to four inches deep in joints and soft tissues, stimulating cell function, promoting healing, and helping to reduce pain.

Is cold laser therapy right for you?

Cold laser therapy is considered a non-invasive procedure. This outpatient therapy also does not require any kind of medication, so our patients experience absolutely no adverse side effects.
Cold laser therapy has shown itself to be most effective when treating chronic pain in joints and tissues, the stiffness associated with arthritis, and helping wounds heal.
This means that it may not be the best choice for patients with acute pain.
We most often use cold laser therapy to help accelerate the healing process and reduce pain, swelling, and spasms while enhancing functionality and range of motion.
If you’re still unsure whether cold laser therapy is the right treatment for you or your loved one, don’t worry!
Just give us a call or contact us today, and one of our friendly, knowledgeable staff members will consult with you and help you choose the best treatments.

Massage Therapy Services

For physical well being and relaxation

Massage therapy uses a variety of techniques to manipulate your joints and soft tissue to improve your body’s overall health.

Massage increases the body’s supply of oxygen and nutrients to your muscles, which help release waste from the muscle               tissue.
Massage therapy also accelerates your body’s own natural ability to heal itself.
Erin Russo is a licensed massage therapist specializing in injury-based and deep tissue massage.

Spinal Decompression Services

FOR TREATMENT OF NECK AND BACK PAIN
Spinal decompression is a non-surgical, pain-free option that uses a traction force to create a negative pressure within the disc that pulls the inner disc material back within the normal confines of the disc to permit healing to occur.

The distraction force relieves nerve root compression.
Associated limb pain will decrease as a direct result helping           normal function return.
Family Care PT has offices in both Buffalo and Williamsville. Contact us today for a consultation on spinal decompression or even for back pain in general. We’re here to help!

Myofascial Release Therapy

Myofascial release is a form of soft tissue therapy used to treat impaired or altered functions of related components of the skeletal and fascial systems. Myofascial release can improve areas of discomfort and range of motion in patients.
Additional Physical Therapy Services:
 Manual Techniques/
Mobilization

Joint mobilization is a type of passive movement of a skeletal joint. It is usually aimed at a ‘target’ joint with the aim of achieving a therapeutic effect. When applied to the spine, it is known as spinal mobilization. The procedure is performed in a gentle fashion with the purpose of increasing the range of motion of the joint.

Therapeutic Exercises

Therapeutic exercises are prescribed to improve flexibility, increase endurance, increase aerobic capacity, and strengthen, among other purposes. Strengthening is designed to increase the maximal force that a muscle or muscle group can generate. Stretching exercises increase range of motion by lengthening tendon and muscle beyond the available range.  Aerobic endurance exercises use a combination of cardiopulmonary endurance exercise and strengthening.

Electrical Stimulation

Neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) is used to provoke a muscle contraction using electrical impulses. It can be used as a strengthening tool or a rehabilitation/preventative tool for partially or totally immobilized patients. NMES can also be used to increase circulation, relax muscle spasms, and increase/maintain range of motion in a joint.

Iontophoresis

Technique using a small electric charge to deliver a medicine or other chemical through the skin; essentially, it is an injection without a needle. We use this method to treat conditions that have a high inflammatory response/overuse injuries (plantar fasciitis, bursitis, elbow tendonitis, and patellar tendonitis). Little to no pain is experienced with this procedure..

Graston / Cupping

is a form of deep friction massage to assist in soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions. The technique utilizes a specially designed instrument to specifically detect and effectively treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation. While grastoning is a compressive form of massage, cupping is a decompressive form of soft tissue release utilized to increase blood flow to the affected tissues to help diminish soft tissue irritation and myofascial pain.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound is applied using a transducer or applicator that is in direct contact with the patient’s skin. Gel is used on all surfaces of the head to reduce friction and assist in the transmission of the ultrasonic waves. These waves are primarily absorbed by connective tissues, ligaments, tendons, and fascia. Conditions we most commonly treat using ultrasound are: ligament sprains, muscle strains, tendonitis, joint inflammation, plantar fasciitis, impingement syndrome, bursitis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and scar tissue adhesion. There are three primary benefits to ultrasound. The first is the speeding up of the healing process from the increase in blood flow in the treated area. The second is the decrease in pain from the reduction of swelling and edema. The third is the gentle massage of muscles, tendons, and/or ligaments in the treated area because no strain is added and any scar tissue is softened.

Core Stabilization Program

Key exercises are designed to strengthen your core. Core strength can help promote better posture, decrease back pain, and help promote a healthier sense of wellbeing.
Whirlpool Therapy: Whirlpool Therapy is used when a patient is experiencing loss of normal functional mobility and swelling caused by a number of conditions, including sprains and strains. There are many treatments available to our clients, and the use of Whirlpool Therapy is a great way to reduce swelling, control inflammation, improve motion, and decrease pain. In many instances, we use whirlpool therapy after other physical therapy treatments.

Golf Injury Rehabilitation

Golf is an extremely disruptive game to the body, and over time, patients might experience a loss of normal functional mobility. Whether golf is a sport for fun or for someone on a competitive circuit, rehabbing golfing injuries is only part of our golf rehabilitation services. At FCPT, we focus on both rehabbing golf injuries and working with our patients on the preventative side to prevent future injuries or discomfort..

Paraffin Wax Therapy
Rehabilitation specialists, massage therapists, and the spa industry have endorsed paraffin wax for its therapeutic properties. Physicians have long known that paraffin therapy is a veritable way to speed healing and soothe muscle and joint pain. In fact, the healing qualities of paraffin wax therapy have been known for centuries. Paraffin therapy is quite common and widely used to aid in the treatment of conditions such as arthritis, bursitis, fibromyalgia, inflammation, muscle spasms, overworked or fatigued muscles, psoriasis, scar tissue, stiff joints, tendonitis, tennis elbow, and many more.

Our physical therapists are here to provide you with the best regimens to get back to a normal life, but we can also assist you in your personal health efforts.
